3. JESUS,WHAT A FRIEND
LYRICS: J.W. CHAPMAN
MUSIC: JACQUELINE JEWEL
VERSE 1:
Jesus, what a Friend for sinners
Jesus, Lover of my soul
Friends may fail me, foes assail me
He, my Savior, makes me whole
CHORUS:
Hallelujah, what a Savior
Hallelujah, what a Friend
Saving, helping, keeping, loving
He is with me ’til the end.
VERSE 2:
Jesus, what a Strength in weakness
Let me hide myself in Him
Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing
He, my Strength, my victory wins.
CHORUS:
Hallelujah, what a Savior
Hallelujah, what a Friend
Saving, helping, keeping, loving
He is with me ’til the end.
VERSE 3:
Jesus, I do now receive Him
More than all in Him I find
He has granted me forgiveness
I am His, and He is mine
CHORUS:
Hallelujah, what a Savior
Hallelujah, what a Friend
Saving, helping, keeping, loving
He is with me ’til the end.
STORY:
One day, I was playing around with a melody, and what came out was an ode to my part Chinese heritage. You’ll hear a bit of an Asian theme weaved through this song - infused with jazz and gospel flavors. I love the message and hope in this old hymn.
